Lake Bled is one of Slovenia’s best-known destinations, but for cyclists it is much more than a postcard image. It is an ideal base for a road cycling holiday, with quiet roads, varied terrain and several of the country’s most rewarding rides within easy reach.

From here, each day opens a different direction. One ride takes you through the villages below the Karawanks, another into Triglav National Park and the high plateau of Pokljuka, another towards the open views above Jamnik, and another into alpine valleys leading towards Kranjska Gora and, for stronger riders, even Vršič Pass.

The result is a road cycling week that combines strong riding with simple logistics, daily variety and the comfort of returning to Lake Bled each evening.

The core version of this tour is built around 5 riding days and 6 nights, giving enough time to explore the best road cycling terrain around Lake Bled at the right pace.

It is ideal for riders who want to settle into one location, enjoy smooth daily organisation and still experience a wide range of road cycling terrain, from rolling village roads and panoramic climbs to high plateaus and classic alpine valleys.

All rides are guided on the bike and supported by a following van carrying nutrition, drinks and mechanical assistance, so each day can focus fully on the riding itself.

Accommodation is planned in selected 3/4-star hotels with half-board, allowing each day to begin and end in comfort.

Day 01

VILLAGE ROADS ABOVE LAKE BLED

The opening ride is designed to ease into the week, but it already reveals the charm of the region. Quiet roads, traditional villages and wide views beneath the Karawanks create a relaxed and scenic first impression of riding around Lake Bled.

A short climb adds just enough effort to wake up the legs before the route rolls back towards the lake. It is a smooth and enjoyable start to the tour, perfect for settling into the rhythm of the group and preparing for the bigger days ahead.

Day 02

THE JAMNIK CLIMB AND THE HILLS OF GORENJSKA

Today brings a fuller taste of the local terrain, with rolling roads, rewarding climbing and some of the most beautiful viewpoints in this part of Slovenia. The highlight of the day is the climb to Jamnik, one of the best-known cycling viewpoints in Slovenia, with its memorable view towards the hilltop Church of St. Jakob.

The day can be adapted with a shorter or longer option, depending on the group. Either way, it is a rich and varied stage through the hills of Gorenjska, with quiet roads, beautiful scenery and a strong sense of movement through the landscape.

Day 03

POKLJUKA PLATEAU AND LAKE BOHINJ

This is one of the signature rides of the tour. The route climbs gradually from Lake Bled into Triglav National Park and up onto the high forested world of the Pokljuka Plateau, where the air feels cooler, the roads quieter and the scenery more remote.

From there, the ride descends towards Lake Bohinj, one of Slovenia’s most beautiful alpine lakes, before returning to Lake Bled along an easy and scenic valley route. It is a beautifully balanced day, combining steady climbing, alpine nature and one of the loveliest returns of the whole week.

Day 04

AROUND THE JELOVICA PLATEAU

Today is one of the bigger days in the saddle, circling the Jelovica Plateau on a route that combines long climbs, quiet roads and broad mountain views. It is a stage full of variety, moving through changing landscapes of forest, open hillsides and traditional villages.

The ride has a stronger mountain character than the previous days, but the rewards are equally greater. It is one of the most satisfying stages of the tour, with a real sense of progression and a beautiful flow from climb to climb.

Day 05

RADOVNA VALLEY AND VRŠIČ PASS

The final riding day is also the most flexible. The route first heads into the peaceful Radovna Valley, one of the most beautiful and serene roads in the Julian Alps, surrounded by forest and dramatic mountain walls.

From there, the day builds gradually towards the grand finale. Stronger riders can add the iconic Vršič Pass, Slovenia’s most famous mountain road, known for its cobbled hairpins, high alpine setting and unforgettable atmosphere. It is a fitting finish to the week, combining valley riding, mountain scenery and the option of ending on one of the country’s great cycling landmarks.

Day 06

DEPARTURE

After breakfast, it is time to say goodbye to Lake Bled and the Julian Alps.

For guests departing that day, transfers can be arranged on request. For those who would like to stay a little longer, additional nights and extra riding can also be organised.

This tour can also be arranged as a shorter 3 riding day version, ideal for riders who want a compact road cycling escape based at Lake Bled.

A weekend format works especially well with a warm-up ride through the villages around Lake Bled, one bigger climbing day towards Jamnik or Pokljuka, and one scenic alpine ride linking either Lake Bohinj or Radovna Valley before returning to base.

It is a strong option for private groups, couples or riders with limited time who still want to enjoy some of the best road cycling terrain in this part of Slovenia.
